The Source of Bioprocess Efficiency™

Technical Innovation

ATMI is an acknowledged technology leader in the manufacture of single-use bioprocess systems and consumables. Our extensive portfolio of product-contacting materials represents the culmination of over a decade of experience in ultra-clean polymer film extrusion and bioprocess vessel manufacture. ATMI's mission is to deliver innovative products that meet or exceed the expectations of its most demanding users.

Supply Assurance

As part of its supply assurance and contingency planning program, ATMI maintains two global manufacturing facilities for single-use products, located in Brussels (Belgium) and Bloomington, Minnesota (USA). ATMI films are designed with dual sourcing of materials and contingency of manufacture in mind, to help ensure security of supply for all customers.

Vertical Integration

ATMI's manufacturing capability is unique in its level of vertical integration. All product-contacting films are extruded in-house on clean blow-extrusion lines. Extruded films can be mono- or multi-layer, and even composed of different resins. This industry-leading flexibility allows ATMI to develop films to meet the unique needs of life sciences applications.

The extrusion process starts with pure, virgin base resin pellets. All resins are lot-traceable and are extensively reviewed for correct specification prior to use. If required, a final product can be traced back to the original lot of resin, and even the raw source materials of that resin.

Unlike conventional extruders, each ATMI blow extruder is enclosed to protect against foreign material and continuously purged with 0.2μm HEPA-filtered nitrogen, ensuring the cleanest film possible with minimal risk of oxidation byproducts.

Immediately after extrusion, the film is fed directly into ATMI's ISO Class 5 cleanroom to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and bioburden control without reliance on post-extrusion cleaning steps. Integrated directly into the film feed line is a 2009, 2012 ATMI-of-the-art, automated defect imaging system. This advanced technology ensures that any imperfections in the film are automatically detected and flagged for removal.

Bag Conversion

ATMI single-use bags are manufactured under ISO Class 5 cleanroom conditions. These cleanrooms are segregated and modular, and built with horizontal laminar flow to minimize particle deposition on the bag film. Operators are gowned in full-body cleanroom suits with boots, gloves, face masks and goggles to prevent any human-related process contamination.
